Some time ago now, with the summit of Mount Archer behind them, four friends travelled out on an adventure. Trading the all too familiar streets of their hometown for the big city, with the aim of playing shows, writing tunes and seeing where their music took them. While a lot has changed since then, Pandamic are still going stronger than ever today and have maintained the magic of what inspired them to be where they are now.
Fronted by Rhys Adams (Guitar/Vocals), with Rangi Barnes (Drums) never too far behind and now joined by Matt Cochran (Bass/Backing Vocals), Pandamic have a sound which echoes the diverse melting pot of influences they’ve always drawn from. Their eclectic blend of skater punk, indie and alt-rock has won over many fans over the years and the band are always seeking to take their music in new directions.
Pandamic originally hail from the regional town of Rockhampton and came from humble beginnings, formed originally as a high-school acoustic duo in a family shed. Many house parties, street busks, and jam sessions followed before everything finally came together for their first EP, Scumbag. Alternating between rowdy party punk and slower, more heartfelt songs, Pandamic’s first release quickly scored them attention across Australia and the chance to open Groovin’ The Moo.
Their riotous live act & single release “Heck” eventually caught the notice of Ratbag Records, founded by Brisbane surfer-skater-stoners Dune Rats, who signed them to the label in the 2017. Not soon after, Pandamic released their second EP Archer, a tight six-track record packed with crowd favourites and anthemic singalongs that catapulted the band into the local spotlight during the Fuck Yeah Ledge Yew tour with their labelmates Dune Rats and WA titans Tired Lion.
Since then, Pandamic have certainly been busy boys. Between supporting homegrown legends such as The Bennies, international heavyweights like US electro-punks The Garden, as well as their own touring and demo-ing of new material, the boys have been working hard toward progressing their sound and finalising the long-awaited next steps for the band.
After spending a chunk of March touring with DZ Deathrays, the lads kicked off April by recording at Plutonium Studios with local legend Darek Mudge (member of Screamfeeder & former owner of the infamous Shed studios where Violent Soho's Hungry Ghost & WACO were recorded) on board to Engineer and fellow 'Ratbag' Brett Jansch (Dune Rats) Producing. The result of this session was their latest single 'Sweater' which was later Mixed by Brock Weston (Bedlam Studios / Bugs) and Mastered by Tyson Ruth (Studio Truth).
