'Dear Hope’ is a the debut solo exhibition contemporary portrait artist, Alysa Mae. Her paintings explore the separation between mind and reality; an ongoing odyssey towards a new and valued sense of identity, role and purpose.
Presented as a series of nontraditional self-portraits, ‘Dear Hope’ discusses a hidden narrative of uncertainty and fragility. Through the optimistic portrayal of the female form and pastel colourfields, Mae highlights a hopefulness in the human experience.
With a background in design and fine art, Mae has explored the cross section of these worlds for the past five years. Her practice extends to large scale public art and creativity as a therapeutic tool for mental health.
