Please join us for an Introduction to Public Art, presented by Simon Suckling of CREATIVEMOVE.

This workshop will share a series of real life scenarios to build the capacity of local artists, curators and producers interested in public art methodology.

Running for 1.5hours, this presentation with Q&A will give an overview to:
- How to apply for a public art opportunities
- Different commissioning models
- Artist briefs
- Concept design
- Fabrication methodology
- How to prepare a folio

Project Manager, CREATIVEMOVE

Simon completed a Master of Arts at Monash University and has spent the past four years as Public Art Project Manager with Cairns Regional Council. Within that role, Simon curated and managed a number of significant projects including the Shields Street Heart project which saw the procurement of over $2million of Indigenous Public Art – both permanent sculptural works, and innovative digital and lighting projections. He managed the 'Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans' project which included 20 national and international artists; and the Cairns City Centre Alive project which saw Simon procuring permanent sculptural works in collaboration with CREATIVEMOVE and artist Sebastian Di Mauro.

Simon has strong consultation and stakeholder management skills and experience; design, documentation and fabrication knowledge and excellent skills in artist support and collaboration.


CREATIVEMOVE is a Brisbane-based visual arts consultancy that draws upon its directors’ 30 years of visual arts and public art experience. We provide strategic direction throughout the entire artwork commissioning life-cycle, from artwork strategy through to fabrication, installation and handover.

CREATIVEMOVE has extensive experience in commissioning methodologies for a variety of artwork types required by private developers, local councils, and other commissioners such as art galleries, universities, arts organisations, tourism bodies, aboriginal corporations and private collectors. As experienced art consultants, CREATIVEMOVE understands the complexity of integrating artworks within new developments.


This program has received financial assistance from the Regional Arts Development Fund. The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Toowoomba Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
