Abstract Vessels: Clay Hand Building with Peta Berghofer


Learn how to build a ceramic vessel with just your bare hands and a couple of tools! 

Dive into a beginners, clay hand building lesson with Toowoomba ceramicist Peta Berghofer. During this workshop, participants will create their own abstract clay sculpture inspired by everyday forms such as vases, bowls and urns. You'll take home a bunch of clay joining knowledge and two objects full of character! 

A selection of Bakers Duck pastries provided.

This class does not include lessons on glaze, under glaze decoration or kiln firing. After the class, all final pieces will be left to dry and then glazed fired by Peta with a clear gloss finish. This will reveal the natural look of the clay whilst keeping your artwork durable and food safe. Stay tuned for classes including clay decorating techniques.Your completed artwork will be available for collection approximately 3 weeks (max) after your lesson. Cheese platter provided.

When: Saturday, 23rd February | 10am - 1pm

3 hour session: $100 pp.
This includes materials and kiln firings for one practice form and one final artwork. 

Bring Your Own:
1 x apron or clothes that can get messy. All tools are supplied, but you are more than welcome to bring your own.

Only 8 places are available for participants aged 16 years+.

About the Artist:
Peta Berghofer is a ceramic artist located in Toowoomba, Queensland. Exploring the making and merging of functional and sculptural objects, she is building a contemporary practice that sits within dialogues of visual art, craft and design.  

Berghofer completed her Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Art) in 2015 and her Honours program in 2016 at the University of the Southern Queensland. She has since been working to establish her practice at Toowoomba's First Coat Studios, and will be travelling to France to further her ceramic studies in 2019.

Please note that if minimum numbers are not reached this workshop will be cancelled. Participants will be notified of cancellation 72 hours prior to the workshop date and refunded accordingly.

Participant Cancellation Policy:
Bookings cancelled up to one week prior to the start of the workshop will 50% refund. Unfortunately, due to limited size classes and sourcing materials in advance, we are unable to refund bookings cancelled within a week prior to the start of the workshop.
