BLOCK PARTY 2019: First Coat International Art Festival Outdoor Mural Gallery Tours with Katie Whyte

ABOUT

Toowoomba is home to a spectacular outdoor mural gallery featuring artists from Australia and around the world, thanks to First Coat International Art Festival. The gallery currently contains over 80 urban artworks and is one of the largest galleries of its kind in Australia! First Coat Festival continues to contribute to the accessibility and visibility of arts & culture through the transformation of public space. The festival was delivered from 2014-2017, focusing on community engagement and conversation, with a strong interest in the role public art plays in social change and urban development.

First Coat International Art Festival Outdoor Mural Gallery Tours for BLOCK PARTY 2019 will be lead by Toowoomba-based artist Katie Whyte. Katie is an exceptional supporter of the arts in Queensland having contributed to a number of key events, activations and happenings in the region, including First Coat International Art Festival.

Katie Whyte is a painter and former vision therapist based in Toowoomba, Queensland. Through the study of both vision and art, she explores how painting is a means of making sense of the world through shared experience. Art acts in a similar way to vision, by influencing our understanding of space and identity so that meaning can be drawn from our surroundings. Using this knowledge of visual perception, Whyte is active in the local creative community, assisting fellow artists and supporters to navigate their surroundings to find value and purpose.

On November 23 guided tours of the First Coat International Art Festival Outdoor Mural Gallery will be hosted by Katie Whyte. Schedule to be released soon.
